Taylor, who spent six years at St James Park, was released following the end of the season alongside former captain Jonas Gutierrez who fought back from testicular cancer to score the goal which sealed the Magpies’ place in the Premier League next year.
And now, the free agent has told of how he and his Argentinian friend were sacked by telephone in the most brutal way possible.
Taylor said: "We had just finished in a lecture and John Carver rang me and he told me the club weren’t going to offer me a new deal.
"I had a chat with him, he’s a good friend of mine, I’ve spent a lot of time with John in and out the club and after we finished talking he asked me to pass the phone to Jonas which was unbelievable."
A shocked Gutierrez added: "It’s not about the new contract because you’ve got to move on.
"I understand the football issues and that type of thing but the more important thing for me is that they can pick up the phone and call me or my agent and say ‘thanks for all but we are going to release you’, that’s more the way it should be.”
