Unsettled Florian Thauvin is set to join Italian club Lazio, according to reports in Italy.
The winger, signed for £12million a year ago, had an unhappy first season at St James's Park.
And Thauvin was loaned back to former club Olympique Marseille in January.
But the French club can't afford to buy the 23-year-old back, and Thauvin, keen to leave Newcastle, is due in Rome for a medical.
Reports claim that Lazio have agreed a fee for Thauvin, who was an unused substitute for Saturday's 3-2 win over Vitesse Arnhem.
Maybe tellingly, despite having been used as a sub in all four of Newcastle’s previous pre-season friendlies, the French winger was one of only two outfield players left on the bench.
The other being Cheick Tiote who has only played 34 minutes in the friendlies.
