John Ryan: "My one big regret is that Kevin never actually played for Doncaster.

"But he'll get a fabulous reception here at the Keepmoat Stadium.

"I'm not sure how much of a possibility it was to get Kevin here a couple of years ago because of his business commitments at that time.

"Yet I think that he's now back at his spiritual home in Newcastle, he's where he belongs and that's good to see.

"I really do think he is the man to resuscitate the sleeping giant in Newcastle.
"I've always had a soft spot for them and it is genuinely sad that they haven't won a trophy since 1969.

"We know they have a great history, and when I was a child they won the FA Cup three times in the 1950s.

"There's a lot of people in Doncaster who are pro-Newcastle because a lot of Geordies moved to the area during the mining era, just like Kevin's dad did.

"And I would really love to see them win the Cup again this year under KK.

"We've always kept in touch.

"I remember going to the City of Manchester Stadium to see Kevin with the Third Division title trophy.

"And he pulled on a Donny shirt and hoisted the trophy above his head!

"We both grew up watching Alick Jeffery and I had his three England caps - one of which I gave to Kevin."
