The official line ... Geremi will be allowed to leave St James’ Park this January as Mike Ashley looks to slash the Magpies’ wage bill.
The former Chelsea midfielder attempted to arrange his own Toon escape by heading to Turkey without informing anybody at Newcastle.
He is on £58,000 per week at St James' Park and not in Chris Hughton's first team plans.
Chris Hughton: “I think the fact that he went away and spoke to other clubs shows an intent on his side that something might be done, and he is the one in the squad that hasn’t played.
“What we have said is that we don’t see anybody going out, but Geremi – who hasn’t had the regular time that others have had on the pitch – would probably be the exception.
“And I think there’s every chance that something will happen with him.
“In all honesty, he has got the World Cup at the end of the season, and his games have been very limited here.
“He’s a wonderful individual.
“He trains well every day, and he certainly has not been a problem, even though he’s not been playing.
“He needs to be playing games, and there is a chance something will happen with him.”
those decisions are very much made at an international level.
“We expect him to be there, and to enjoy playing.”
