... the former Everton midfielder would be happy to be involved in Newcastle United’s Europa League adventure next season, and let the rest take care of itself.
We have only seen glimpses of the form that resulted in England honours up to Under-21 level due to a combination of injury and the solid form of Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote.
Yet the 2012/13 campaign could see Gosling get much more of a chance to flourish with European football back on Tyneside; Danny Guthrie gone; and the future of Manchester United target Cheick Tiote still up in the air.
There is still plenty of competition for places with Haris Vuckic, Sylvain Marveaux, Mehdi Abeid and new arrival Romain Amalfitano ready for action.
Gosling was on a shortlist for Great Britain’s Olympic under Team GB boss Pearce.
Dan Gosling: “I just want to get more time on the pitch.
“We all knew we had quality here but none of us we’re going round saying that we’d be in the top four at the end of the season.
“We always just aimed for top 10 and as the season progressed we were still up there and it went to the Europa League.
“We’d have been very happy with it if we’d been offered it.
“I still love it here. It’s a great club to be at.
“This club will always attract players but hopefully my opportunity will come.
“I would have loved to have been part of Team GB.
“But I didn’t have as much football as I would have liked so it was always going to be a tough one.”
