It 'kicked off' at St James' Park ... but thankfully ... Alan Pardew was NOT involved.
Pardew moved to play down the touchline scuffle involved Newcastle United goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman.
But Woodman, and his Southampton counterpart Toni Jimenez, could face sanctions from the Football Association.
The pair were at the centre of a fracas after Morgan Schneiderlin fouled Newcastle substitute Massadio Haidara late in Saturday’s 1-1 draw between the two clubs at St James’s Park.
Stewards had to intervene as the confrontation quickly escalated, and Woodman and Jimenez were sent to the stands.
Alan Pardew: “It was panto season.
“There was a big dame and a bloke in an emu outfit and everything, but it was nothing, really.
“Both benches want to win. There was a bit of frustration.
“The battle goes on on the pitch, not off it. That’s what you’ve got to focus on.
“We were a bit frustrated with a few of the offsides, and it all built up a little bit.
“Maybe it could have been calmed down a bit better.”
The FA will now examine what happened after looking at Mike Jones’s report.
