Newcastle winger Nolberto Solano believes that the Magpies' win at the Stadium of Light on Sunday proved that they are now the top dogs.
The Toon Army are chasing a Champions League place and are in the Qurater-Finals of the F.A Cup, whilst Peter Reid's men are trying to gain mid-table security.
"In the last few seasons Sunderland have had the upper hand, but things have changed now," said Nobby.
"By beating them at their place we have shifted the balance of power in the North East"
Newcastle had famously lost twice in a row to Sunderland at St. James' Park, the last time being the infamous episode ending Gullit's reign.
The famous Sunderland-Newcastle rivalry is one of the strongest in the counrty, and Solano recognised that this win was for the Toon Army saying, "The fans are happy with the win and we know how important it is for them"
