Alan Pardew: “He has that aggression, and he can channel it the wrong way when he’s not 100 per cent, which he did on Sunday against Norwich.
“But you can’t help but love him for it.
“He’s so important to the club and the team.
“We all look to him when things aren’t going so well.
“When things are going well, it’s because he’s got a good grip of the game in the first 20 minutes, and we want to get him up to speed as quick as we can.”
