The £5m signing from Ipswich Town has had a disrupted season because of injury, with a horrific broken arm ruling him out for three months at the start of the campaign, while groin and hamstring strains have also limited his appearances this year.
Glenn Roeder: "I saw him as a young player at Ipswich and he was a huge young talent. Against Chelsea on the last day of last season he was outstanding.
"I put a very good report into (Sven-Göran) Eriksson on that day. I like him as a person and enjoy working with him on the training ground. He plays in an old man's position, that seems like a strange thing to say, but it's true.
"He can't possibly have fulfilled his potential, but he needs a coach to work with him. He wants to be coached and shown. Anyone who writes him off would be wrong."
