Thompson donated 50% of his testimonial proceeds to the appeal.
Lee Clark, United's Reserve team coach, was delighted help both causes and said he grew up with Thompson as a kid at Newcastle.
Clark told the Chronicle: "The main thing was raising money for Tilly Lockey, and it was a great night for Paul Thompson too.
"I grew up with Paul at the centre of excellence at Newcastle and we know each other very well.

"Lads like Paul are few and far between and I was delighted to contribute to what was a great evening for him.
"It was entertaining for the neutral, but it shows we have got a lot to work on.
"It was the reserve team's first real competitive game of the season and it showed in many ways.
"There was a little spell for 20 minutes after half-time I was pleased with, but the rest was disappointing.
"It was a good turnout, and I hope it helps a very good cause."
