... pay the Republic of Ireland international compensation of £5 (€7) per week for the next two years.
Former Mackem McClean is famous for refusing to wear a poppy on Remeberance day because of his IRA links.
Aaron Sean Dalton, 28, from Moss Park in Derry, pleaded guilty in the city's magistrates’ court to causing £945 (€1,311) worth of damage to the car by smashing a rear tail light.
The incident took place outside McClean's family home at Creggan Heights in Derry on 10 January this year.
Dalton also pleaded guilty to assaulting McClean's father Patrick on the same date.
The court was told that McClean's father was looking after the black Maserati VRM, registration number MC12EAN, belonging to his son when the criminal damage and assault incidents took place outside the family home following an earlier incident involving Dalton and a female member of the footballer's family.
The police were called and when they arrived at the scene Dalton was being restrained by members of McClean's family.
A Public Prosecution Service solicitor told District Judge Barney McElholm that when Mr McClean senior challenged Dalton about damaging his son's car, Dalton ran at him punching out.
However, Mr McClean senior sustained no injuries in the incident outside his family home.
A defence barrister said Dalton regretted his role in the offending and was remorseful for his actions.
Mr McElholm ordered Dalton, who wore a Newcastle United top to the court hearing, to pay the international footballer compensation of £500 (€694) at the rate of £10 (€14) per fortnight.
On the assault charge the District Judge imposed a three month jail sentence, suspended for eighteen months.
