Newcastle have today told travelling Toon fans that the UEFA Cup match in Germany against Eintracht Frankfurt next month is STILL to be scheduled, despite earlier confirming it would take place on Thursday, November 30.
Not only does it mean United face a gruelling trip to Chelsea on Saturday, December 2, less than 48 hours after the game in Germany, but hundreds of Mags have ALREADY booked flights and will miss the match.
Chelsea face Levski Sofia in the Champions League at home on Tuesday, December 5, and they have the right to insist the game with Newcastle goes ahead on the Saturday. An alternative for United would be to move the Eintracht game to Wednesday, 24 hours earlier than the scheduled date.
TalkOfTheTyne.net reporter Denis Taylor: "We have already booked flights to Frankfurt, arriving at 6.15pm on the Wednesday. The airport is 90 minutes away by coach, and allowing for transfer times, we would have no chance of getting to the match on time.
"The only way to get a decent price for a flight is to book early, because as we all know, the plane comanies up the prices once they realise there will be big demand for a flight.
"No matter what Newcastle United say ... I phoned them and they confirmed the match would go ahead on the Thursday. That is why we went ahead with the flights".
