Toon Fans Vote For Krul As No 1

Some tip Tim Krul and Fraser Forster to be going head-to-head for the job between the sticks in the Premier League next season.

But Harper is still in the picture.

Krul has already stated he sees himself as first choice on Tyneside, while Forster has claimed he has “no interest” in sitting on the bench next term.

So where does that put Harper?

According to our poll - more than half the supporters want Tim Krul to continue where he left off last term.

Steve Harper: “Every season the managers here have always said nobody is No 1 – it’s up to you to convince them in pre-season who deserves the shirt.

“And I’m sure it’ll be no different this time.

“Every season it gets harder.

“Fraser did very well at Celtic, which is a massive club with similar crowds to here, and the expectations there will have done him the world of good.

“Tim ended the season in the team, and played 20 Premier League games.

“He’ll want to add to that tally next year and get more games in.

“The manager, once we were safe, wanted to put Tim in and have a look at him, and I had no problem with that.

“He did very well, and I had no problem with him playing, as I had to get my knee right and come back firing on all cylinders in pre-season because the two young lads behind me are champing at the bit and ready to take the jersey from me.

“We can have a right go next season. It’s the consistency we’ve got to look for.

“At the start of the season last year, people said it would be our home form that kept us in the division, but we won five games away from home.

“If we can get a few valuable additions, I’m sure we’ll be able to turn St James’ Park back into a fortress.

“We might get the home wins into double figures, and still pick up the away wins.

“We could start looking upwards rather than over our shoulders.”

FOREWORD BY FAIRS CUP HERO JOHN McNAMEE

Sports Journalist Richie Everson: "At last a book that the fabulous Newcastle United fans can relate to. It's informative, all the facts and figures are there, plus the 120 match reports from all the fixtures ... but it is the articles by the supporters that amazed me.

"I went to many of those games, and this is the only book I can honestly say 'hits the nail on the head'!

"Yes we know the results and the scorers, but some of the facts in this book had me so wrapped up in it I couldn't put it down.

"Was Benny Arentoft cup-tied when he played in the final? Big Wyn and his battle with John McGrath; McFaul scoring a penalty when the crowd had gone home; the trouble in Palermo; it is all amazing stuff.

"I would honestly give this book 10 out of 10."
