Toon top brass were last night holding talks with the Senegal FA, who are angry that the striker failed to link up with the squad ahead of their match with Niger.
They are ready to invoke FIFA’s five-day rule, which would see the star suspended for tomorrow’s visit of Swansea for withdrawing without a valid reason.
Newcastle officials are adamant, though, that the Senegalese were informed that Cisse was injured.
Cisse did not reappear for the second half of Sunday’s defeat against West Ham due to a back injury, which they insist meant he was unfit to play on Wednesday.
Alan Pardew: “I don’t want to fall out with Senegal. Hopefully, the communication lines will come together and we can put it right.
“We feel we’ve covered all the bases to give them the information but it would seem that they have not received it.
“We sent an email straight after the game that, at half-time, he was feeling his back and we took him off the pitch. We also sent reports of the injury, or at least the doctor did.
“As far as I’m aware, we didn’t get too much information back and now it seems Senegal are upset that he didn’t appear for them.
“Somewhere down the line, something appears to have been lost in translation.
“We don’t want any bad feeling with Senegal because, obviously, we’ve got Demba too.
“It’s not ideal, leading up to a game, when a guy we are trying to get to hit his best form has this over him.”
