Newcastle United have issued a statement saying the striker leaves the Magpies by mutual consent after a five-year spell at the club.
Ranger was a Dennis Wise signing, and he has made more appearances in court than on the pitch at St James' Park.
Alan Pardew has tried to get him out of the club for a year, and now the deed is done.
Ranger was sacked by Southampton as a trainee for stealing the club kit(!), and he has gone from one police charge to another.
Ranger made his debut for the Magpies in the Championship and won a title winners medal, which he tried to flog on the internet ... suggesting what Newcastle United meant to him (or not!).
Pardew opted to loan the striker out to Barnsley and Sheff Wed last term, but neither club could afford to sign him.
Alan Pardew (at Christmas): “I think I’ve been fair with him.
“This guy is late so often, it is unbelievable. He’s still at this football club and we’re still trying to do something with him.
“But he will still not get back in the team unless he has a period of six weeks where he isn’t late.
“I don’t think it is going to happen.
“It is important, I’m not going to let him train with my first team because he is letting the other players down.
“The bottom line is we haven’t got four or five clubs queuing up (to take him).
“In fact we haven’t got one club queuing up for him.
“That should be alarm bells in his head to get his act in order.
“But maybe he doesn’t want to be a footballer.”
His last appearance for United this term was the abysmal FA Cup exit at Brighton when he showed no interest.
What is his future now?
PRISION - WITHOUT DOUBT!
Some people cannot be changed ... and he is one of them.
