Newcastle United have tabled a bid for Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Appelt Pires, according to a report on Gianluca Di Marzio.
Better known as Gabriel, the 23-year old plies his trade at La Liga side Leganés, of whom have been reportedly offered a deal by Rafa Benitez who is keen on the midfielder.
It is claimed that Newcastle have submitted an offer for Gabriel, which is a loan deal until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move should the club win promotion to the Premier League, which looks a safe bet.
Gabriel has made a total of over 50 appearances for the Spanish outfit, netting 9 times from the heart of midfield in the process, and would play an influential role in taking the Magpies back to the summit of the Championship table.
His attributes would complement talisman Jonjo Shelvey in midfield, and would add to much needed squad depth to survive the duration of the current campaign.
