The Dutch 20-year-old was loaned out to Falkirk last season, and gained a lot of experience at first- team level.
Sources in Holland claim Krul could be signed by the Blues, before going on loan to PSV Eindhoven or Ipswich Town.
However, the PSV option looks like a dead deal.
This is thought to be due to Chelsea supremo Piet de Visser's relationship with PSV Eindhoven after the scout - who discovered Brazilian stars Romario and Ronaldo - parted company with the Dutch giants to become the personal adviser to Roman Abramovich.
Yet there is interest from the Netherlands, with Feyenoord keen to offer Krul a loan deal with an option to buy.
