Newcastle United Under-23s ran riot in their trip to Manchester United in Premier League 2.
The Magpies bounced back from their Tyne-Tees derby defeat to Middlesbrough seven days ago to record an impressive and convincing away victory at Leigh Sports Village.
Once again Elias Sorensen impressed for the second string as he helped himself to a brace in the rout for Ben Dawson’s side.
There was also a first Toon goal for summer signing Yannick Toure, while Cal Roberts took his tally to eight for the season.
Newcastle took the lead after half-an-hour when Regan Poole lost the ball for Man United and Sorensen cashed in, going on to slot past Kovar from close range after Matty Longstaff’s pass.
However, after Newcastle had lost Lewis Cass to an injury – which resulted in the player being carried off – Angel Gomes chipped Freddie Woodman to level the game up.
On 55 minutes Sorensen scored an impressive second with a good finish following good work from Sean Longstaff and Roberts.
With 12 minutes to go Roberts went from provider to goalscorer as he raced on to Matty Longstaff’s pass before firing home.
In stoppage time Mo Sanagare set up Toure to score from close range and complete a 4-1 win for the Magpies.
