Newcastle United legend Philippe Albert has been involved in a car accident in his native Belgium, leaving a baby and one other person injured.
The former Belgium international was travelling on the N90 motorway from Basse-Sambre to Gilly when the accident took place.
According to emergency services, Albert was heading towards Charleroi in a Suzuki Vitara when at 1.30pm local time, another vehicle emerged from a slip road and hit the driver's door.
Both vehicles came to a stop at a roundabout, but Albert emerged from the car unharmed.
Albert’s airbags were deployed, but the other car, a Citroen Berlingo, was left in significantly worse condition with the front of the car smashed and its bonnet missing.
A man and his baby were in the other car and they have both been transported to hospital.
Fire services were also called to the scene to clear the debris on the road as a result of the crash.
Albert made his name at Newcastle during the 1990s and was a key member of Kevin Keegan’s ‘Entertainers’ side that came so close to winning the Premier League title in 1996.
