The Gunners eased to a 1-0 victory over Cole’s former club Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
They’ve got a great opportunity to win the Premier League this season. Will they? I’m still not sure
France defender Laurent Koscielny scored a 72nd-minute winner after Aleksandar Mitrovic and Georginio Wijnaldum missed great chances for the visitors.
Arsenal are two points clear at the top of the Premier League table after Leicester City played out a goalless draw with Bournemouth.
However, former Gunners striker Cole is unsure whether Arsenal can maintain their form in the second half of the season after fading away in title race in recent seasons.
“I don’t know. Arsenal have got to this stage of the season for the past three seasons and then fallen away,” Cole told Goals On Sunday on Sky Sports.
“It was a great result – a massive result. They probably would have lost this game last year, but Petr Cech won them the game.
“Can Arsenal sign a couple of players in January and win the Premier League? They’ve got a great opportunity to win the Premier League this season. Will they? I’m still not sure.”
Arsenal have won 13 of their 20 Premier League games so far this season.
The Gunners have lost to West Ham United, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion and Southampton so far this term.
Wenger’s side make the trip to bitter rivals Liverpool in their next Premier League game at Anfield on 13 January.
