Better form of late
Nicky Butt and Kieron Dyer have been forced to withdraw from the squad that travels to Holland for the 3rd round tie.

Dyer has the flu whilst Butt, a player who has only just returned from injury, has reported an ankle problem.

Heerenveen have a strong midfield that boasts recent Dutch international debutant Ugur Yildrim, Finnish playmaker Mika Vayrynen and Arnold Bruggink, a player with an impressive 1 in 3 goals ratio.

That our midfield has been weakened will only increase our Dutch host’s chance of getting a result. It now looks likely that Laurent Robert will deputise for Dyer in a wide left role.

If Butt and Dyer fail to regain fitness before Sunday it would mean that we would be without the pair in addition to Lee Bowyer and Amdy Faye both of whom are suspended.

Meanwhile, Jean-Alain Boumsong has retuned to France to receive treatment on a back injury.

Graeme Souness has stated that the French centre back should be fit to face
Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday. The ex-Rangers man has completed just one full Premiership game, his home debut against Southampton, since his switch from Ibrox.
