Rafa Benitez has promised Newcastle fans that he will seek answers on the training ground following the 3-1 defeat to Fulham on Saturday.
Newcastle remain at the top of the Championship despite their defeat, but their miserable performance at St James’ Park was far from that of a potential title winner.
Fans were left furious with the manner of the performance from their side, but Benitez has reassured them that he will find answers as to why Newcastle are continuously making mistakes.
The Newcastle chief was particularly frustrated at his side’s poor decision making, lamenting a number of errors that cost them dearly throughout the fixture.
He told the Chronicle: “We started making mistakes, and we paid for that. We were giving the ball away, and that was giving them the chance to play in the way that they like to play.
“When you have tried and have made mistakes, you have to analyse why. It is not as though the players were not trying in terms of effort.
“Sometimes, it is just the wrong decision, and that is something we have to improve.”
Newcastle had gone behind to Tom Cairney’s stunning 25-yard strike after just 15 minutes, before teenage sensation Ryan Sessegnon netted a quickfire double to send the away side into an unlikely 3-0 lead.
Daryl Murphy offered faint hope for the Magpies with his 76th minute effort, but it proved to be little more than a consolation goal as Newcastle slumped to only their first defeat in the league since January 2.
But Benitez will see their defeat as a wasted opportunity to put further distance between themselves and promotion rivals Brighton, who are now level on points at the top of the table following their easy win over Derby.
