Siem de Jong has agreed a return to Ajax, according to reports in Holland.
The Newcastle United forward travelled to Amsterdam last week for talks with the club.
And the two clubs have reportedly agreed a £4million fee for de Jong.
Siem de Jong’s surprising reaction to Twitter jibes that greeted his Newcastle return De Jong joined Newcastle from Ajax three years ago.
However, after two injury-hit seasons at St James's Park he was loaned out to PSV Eindhoven last season.
The 28-year-old reported back for pre-season training hoping to impress United manager Rafa Benitez.
Speaking last month, the Holland international said: “I will talk to the manager because I want to prove myself at Newcastle.
"I still feel I haven’t started here. It bothers me that I haven’t been able to do that. I wish it was different, but I can’t change that now.
“I’m disappointed about my years here until now. I want it to be a different story.”
De Jong has now reluctantly accepted that he needs to move on.
He has reportedly agreed a three-year deal with the Eredivisie club.
The move will free up funds for Newcastle to reinvest in the final few days of the transfer window.
