Alan Smith: “We’ve gone the whole season unbeaten at home and were the only team in the country to do so.
“If you look back over the years, St James’ Park was always one of the most difficult places to come. We need to get that fear back again and I think we’ve given ourselves a great chance of doing that after this season’s record.
“Our main aim next season has to be survival, we know that. And if we’re to do that then we’re going to have to get the majority of our points at home.
“If you can win half your home games then you’re more than half way to staying up. We’ve got that momentum at St James’ now but we have to make sure we keep that going.”
