Former Scotland international Pat Nevin has told The BBC how impressed he was with Newcastle United's Christian Atsu against Hull.
Newcastle were eliminated from the EFL Cup quarter finals on a penalty shootout after a drab game which ended 1-1 after extra time.
Nevin was particularly taken by Chelsea loanee Atsu, describing him as impossible to defend against.
He told BBC Sport: "Atsu was again like lightning down the left, and he is destroying James Weir with his pace. If a player has that much pace, there really is nothing you can do."
Atsu unfortunately had nothing to show for his efforts, despite scoring in the shootout, and his Newcastle side will have to regroup and concentrate on their league form.
Nevin added: "Newcastle were the better side, they had so many opportunities and they have blown it. It is almost the nightmare scenario for Rafael Benitez, as they were taking this cup very seriously. But this is a decent team that is growing and getting better."
