Cheik Tiote: “I turned this (v Sunderland) game into a personal battle in midfield because I wanted to show the supporters how much I understood just what this game meant to the Newcastle supporters.
“I wanted to show the fans I played for the badge and the flag. It was important that I did that.
“When I signed for Newcastle I knew that I had to work hard and put in a shift in each game. That’s what I do, and I will continue to do it.
“I’m happy that the fans can see that already and appreciate it.
“I have the mentality that I will not stop working when-ever I pull on the shirt for Newcastle. You don’t have to be the best player in the world.
“Sometimes you have to use your fighting mentality to help the team. It’s just about winning the ball back for your team and then getting it to your team-mates. That is my job and I am aware of it, that’s what I do.”
