Lord Mayor Coun David Wood will welcome the side at the city's Mansion House, where each squad member will be presented with a commemorative tankard.Coun Wood: "It is just a way of saying thank-you to the team for what they did for the club and the city and I felt it was something that was important to do on the 40th anniversary."
It is still the last time a Magpies side has bagged any silverware and a series of events have been organised to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the victory.
Coun Wood was stunned to learn the City Council had never held a formal event to honour the players who took part in the European cup run and decided to organise the gathering for the final week of his year as Lord Mayor.
