Campbell, aged 17 years and 236 days, broke the record set by Andy Carroll in November 2006.
Adam Campbell: “It was the proudest day of my life – by far.
“When we came, and I knew we had 19 men for an 18-man squad, I thought I’d probably miss out.
“I was here just to enjoy the experience. I would have enjoyed it had I played or not.
“It wouldn’t have made a difference, but to actually get in the squad, and get on knowing I’d be the youngest player, is amazing.
“Knowing that I have my own little record for the club I support – I can’t put that into words. I can’t describe what it means to me.
“My family couldn’t be there as it was too expensive.
“Many fans found that the prices were horrendous, but they all watched at home, and they all texted me.
“It was as much as dream come true for me as it’s for them. I owe a lot to my mam and dad – I would never be where I am now without them.
“They drove me here, there and everywhere, and watched me through rain, hail and snow. They have been there through it all.
“Unfortunately, my first touch in the game was too heavy and it took me wide, but never mind, nothing will make me miserable.
“Just to get a game is beyond my wildest dreams. Normally, I’m just standing watching, but to actually be around the players and for them to know my name is a dream come true.”
