Newcastle up to highest position of the season as good form continues
Newcastle United fans are no longer looking in fear at the Premier League table as their team continue to move up the league. For so long during this campaign the league ladder has been something that Magpies fans have only looked at it from behind the sofa, if at all. But following the away win at Brentford, a quick glimpse at the table is almost a sight for sore eyes.
Eddie Howe’s side are now up to 14th place in the Premier League, heady heights considering how long they have spent in the relegation zone during the campaign. Fears of relegation are far from over of course, with thirteen games still to be played anything can happen during the run-in, but if you had offered Magpies fans this position back in December, most would have snapped your hands off.
Newcastle are currently four points clear of 18th-placed Burnley, though Burnley have played a game less than Eddie Howe’s team. Perhaps just as significantly, Brentford are now a point behind the Toon, but have played two games more and are on a dreadful run of form, as are Leeds United, who sit two points behind Newcastle from one game more.
Leicester City are now the team directly above Newcastle and have only two points more, though they do have two games in hand. Aston Villa are five points ahead from the same number of games as the Magpies. Anything higher than 14th may well be too much to ask but if Newcastle United can get out of this season with anything around this current position and put it behind them then it will be a job well-done by the new manager and his squad.
