The Chronicle reports that Keane – who has been linked with the Magpies throughout the summer – has been subject of intense interest from United in the past few days.
The Chronicle: "And sources in North London have confirmed that a deal for the Republic of Ireland star would be accepted by Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp.
"It remains unclear whether Keane would make the switch to Tyneside on loan or as a permanent transfer, despite national reports today mooting a £6m move."
Chris Hughton: “His name has been mentioned and that is what we would expect at this stage. We are close to the end of the transfer window.
“He is, though, a player who I know very well.
“There is an association there and a connection.”
