Striker Austin is out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to be the target of a number of Premier League clubs when the transfer window re-opens in January.

The 26-year-old told Sky Sports News HQ in October that he will wait until next summer to sort out his future and Hasselbaink would love to see him stay beyond the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

The Dutchman warned off potential bidders at his first press conference as QPR manager, when he said:"You don't pinch. He's not going to be pinched.

"I'm looking forward to working with Charlie, and I'm looking forward to working with everyone else as well.

"Charlie Austin is a very important individual at this club but it's a team game. I want to have a team. I don't want individuals. You need a team and eventually teams win you titles. Individuals win just the game.

"We need to hit the ground with both feet, not one, and concentrate on a Saturday, and the league will take care of itself. That's the easiest way, and that's the best way."

Hasselbaink is in no rush to jump into the transfer market in January himself, adding: "I want to work with this group first, I think they deserve that."
