Newcastle defender’s injury confirmed
Newcastle United are set to be without influential new signing Kieran Trippier for an extended period after he picked up an injury in Sunday’s win over Aston Villa.
The England full-back limped out of the match early in the second-half with what appeared to be a foot injury, having given Newcastle the lead in the first half with his second goal direct from a free-kick in successive matches.
It has now been confirmed that the right-back has suffered a fracture of the 5th metatarsal in his left foot and will probably be looking at an operation and a period of rehabilitation that could keep him out of action for a couple of months.
Trippier has been influential in the upturn in Newcastle’s results and performances since joining the club from Athletico Madrid last month. He has brought a calm, confident assuredness to the Magpies defensive line and his attacking influence in terms of his crossing ability and threat from set-pieces will be a big miss as the Magpies continue to struggle for goals.
