Opta statistics show alarming figures as Newcastle have scored just three goals in their last seven league fixtures, failing to score on five occasions.
Newcastle have won just one of their last eight league games against Burnley (D3 L4) – winning 3-0 in a second tier clash in November 1982, thanks to goals from Chris Waddle, Kevin Keegan and Imre Varadi.
Burnley are winless in their last four away games against Newcastle (D2 L2), conceding exactly three goals in three of those matches.
The Magpies are winless in seven Premier League home games (D2 L5) – their longest such run in the competition since a run of eight ending in April 2009.
Only Southampton (11) are on a current longer winless run in the Premier League than Burnley (7).
Newcastle and Burnley have the joint-lowest scoring top scorer of Premier League clubs this season; Joselu leads the way for Newcastle and Sam Vokes for Burnley with just four goals each (Jay Rodriguez for West Brom, and Tammy Abraham/Jordan Ayew for Swansea also with four).
Indeed, all four of Joselu’s Premier League goals this season have come at St James’ Park – he’s the only Newcastle player to have scored more than once at home so far.
Dwight Gayle has been involved in four goals in four league games against Burnley (two goals, two assists).
Johann Berg Gudmundsson has been directly involved in six of Burnley’s last 12 Premier League goals (one goal, five assists), with his five assists being worth nine points to the Clarets.
Chris Wood scored on his only previous league visit to St James’ Park, netting Leeds United’s 90th minute equaliser in a Championship game in April 2017.
