However, confusion remains about the identity of the ‘reserve venue’ and, rather unhelpfully for travelling fans, UEFA won’t say exactly when the issue will be resolved.
"At this moment in time, the UEFA Cup match between Valerenga IF and Newcastle United will go ahead as scheduled on Thursday 26 February at the Ulleval Stadium in Oslo, as the pitch is covered and fitted with under-soil heating," UEFA spokesman Rob Faulkner told the organisation’s official website.
"We have asked Valerenga to propose a reserve venue, as this is common practice with any club involved in our competitions and situated where weather conditions may pose a potential problem.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will have further news closer to the match date."
