The story starts when the Newcastle manager told Jonas he was no longer required at the club and sent him on loan to Norwich City.
Then the 31-year-old winger was told he had testicular cancer and then, due to publiv opinion, the goal posts moved.
Jonas has always been a popular figure on Tyneside, and Pardew has not, particularly at a time when the team were in or around the relegation zone.
Then Jonas was given the all clear last month, and he returned to training this week.
A far cry from last year when he had to return to Argentina to train because he was not welcome at Newcastle's training ground! And he made that known to the media, which was a massive embarrassment to the Newcastle manager.
So what has changed?
Apart from Jonas getting the "all clear", not a lot really, apart from Pardew's decision to bring him back into the fold.
Jonas has not played for the club since October 2013, but suddenly Pardew says he will be "in and around the squad in a few weeks".
But ahead of Newcastle’s Capital One Cup quarter-final against Tottenham on Wednesday, Pardew insisted the Argentine is heading back towards the squad.
Alan Pardew (talking to the Chronicle): “We’re pleased to have him back.
“Jonas is one of those people who livens up the training ground just with his personality, and obviously his illness has magnified that fact.
“He hasn’t been around much but he’s in pretty good shape and we are hoping that in two or three weeks he could be back in and around the first-team.
“He’s keen to earn his right to play but, like any player here, I have to give him an even keel in terms of access to the first team. It’s now up to Jonas but it will certainly be emotional for us and for him when he returns, and we will look forward to it.”
