The game was due to be held at the 25,000-capacity Ulleval Stadium in Oslo, but with the average temperature in the Norwegian capital in February being minus eight degrees an alternative location for the tie may have to be found.
A statement on the club’s official website read: "United fans intending to book travel arrangements for the UEFA Cup game against Valerenga are being warned that the venue for the game may be changed.
"The Norwegian club contacted United on Monday and expressed concern at the weather conditions in Oslo in February.
"There is a possibility because of this that the venue may be changed to another country (possibly the UK) so supporters are advised not to make any travel arrangements until further notice."
