David Bird aims to upstage his hero Alan Shearer tomorrow — by putting his wife in hospital!
If Shearer scores for Newcastle United in their FA Cup fourth-round tie at Cheltenham Town the former England striker will become the Magpies’ all-time record marksman.
Midfielder Bird, on the other hand, has made 82 appearances for the Robins without EVER scoring for the League Two minnows. But he could hit the headlines tomorrow as his wife Nikki is due to give birth — just as Bird plays the biggest game of his career.
Bird, 21, said: “Nikki has got her ticket and is insisting on being at the game, even though the baby is due the same day. She’s told me that the excitement of seeing me score against Newcastle would probably break her waters. That could lead to a scene straight out of Footballers’ Wives!”
