Sheffield Wednesday are in pole position to sign Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy on loan in the final 36 hours of the window, Football Insider can reveal.
The Yorkshire club have edged ahead of Murphy’s other suitors Derby County, Huddersfield and Fulham in the bid to land the 24-year-old by tomorrow’s cut-off.
A Wednesday source has told Football Insider that they are confident of winning the race for Murphy following negotiations in recent hours.
Manager Steve Bruce, who controversially quit Wednesday to take over at Newcastle last month, has given the green light for Murphy to go out on loan after signing winger Allan Saint-Maximin.
He has made 41 senior appearances for Newcastle since arriving from Norwich City for £10m in the summer of 2017.
