According to reports from Hillsborough, Shearer has put his name forward for the vacant managerial post at Sheffield Wednesday.
Shearer's only experience as a manager came at the back end of last season, and we all know what happened then ... Newcastle were relegated to the Championship.
He fell out with owner Mike Ashley, who then opted to give Chris Hughton the job on a permanent basis.
Shearer has made it known he is now desperate to get back into managment and according to the Sun, a source close to the former England striker, says he wants the job at Hillsborough.
And should he land the job he wants to install his former team-mate Gary Speed as his no 2.
Appointing Shearer would be seen as a massive gamble with Wednesday second from bottom in the Championship, four points adrift of safety.
