Wembley Honour For Toon Players

The United boss does not want James Milner and Steven Taylor to even think about playing at Wembley for the England Under-21 side until the games at the DSB Stadion and The Valley on Sunday are out of the way.

Supposed Roeder target Nigel Reo-Coker is set to have the honour of leading out the first England team at the new Wembley, a match that both Taylor and Milner expect to be involved.

The Under-21s friendly against Italy next week is the first match at the refurbished stadium, with Reo-Coker the skipper for the hosts.

The 22-year-old has endured a disastrous season at West Ham and has been partly blamed for them propping up the Barclays Premiership.

He has been jeered by his own fans for his slump in form and even received abusive mail, but his performances for the Under-21s have been consistent. Roeder has long been a fan of the youngster, although West Ham have made it known that they would want Scott Parker if any deal with Newcastle is considered.

Nigel Pearson will coach the team as Stuart Pearce, who will take charge for the European Championship, is concentrating on club matters with Manchester City.

"As well as the 'Wembley factor', we have to keep things in perspective and not get carried away with the occasion," said Pearson.
