The Frenchman was thought to be set for a switch to SPL outfit St Johnstone this month, but he was back at Newcastle’s training HQ in Benton yesterday for a fitness test.
Abeid’s first option would be to stay at United and possibly be loaned out.
He has three years left on his current deal and he fancies the Europa League with St Johnstone.
