What Did Ashley Do While Keegan Was Away?

Supposedly former Leeds United manager Dennis Wise was going to get straight on the job.
KK returned last week to find we had signed .... BUGGER ALL!
Near the top of the list was Andrei Arshavin.
The Russian missed the first two games of Euro 2008 due to suspension, but he had Keegan drooling with his efforts for Zenit St Petersburg in the UEFA Cup.
Arshavin was the man who took Rangers apart in the final, making both goals and picking up man of the match at the City of Manchester Stadium.
But it would appear that Toon owner Mike Ashley, and Wise (the guy who once had a million kids crying when he said he was the one who smashed up the Blue Peter garden), have missed out.
Keegan wanted to persuade Zenit to do a deal BEFORE Euro 2008 kicked off, but obviously communication has collapsed somewhere along the line.
Newcastle may well open the lines of negotiation for the Russian superstar, but Ashley will be competing against the best in the world for Arshavin's signature.
Newcastle cannot offer Arshavin European football, let alone Champions League football, and the big clubs out there can!
We seem to have more backroom staff than players ... and that could be the problem.
Chris Mort was seeing out his time as chairman, his replacement was probably renewing his West Ham season ticket, as for Ashley and Wise?
The fact is ... while Keegan was away ... the mice certainly didn't play.
