Jon Dahl signed from SC Heerenveen in Holland for £2.2m having topped the Dutch goalscoring league in 1996/97.
He only played the one season for the Magpies - 1997/98 - and made 34 appearances, scoring four goals.
He was highly rated and scored twice in a pre-season friendly in Ireland when he first signed and looked a great buy.
But he never adapted to the Premiership and struggled straight away.
He always insisted he was played out of position, but he never looked sharp wherever he played.
The problem was, he was bought to play off Alan Shearer, and Shearer was injured at Goodison Park in a pre-season friendly and Tomasson was expected to be a target man.
But he didn't have the build to battle against stronger defenders, and he struggled throughout the season.
Denmark will play in Group E at the World Cup finals alongside Holland, Japan and Cameroon.
