Best says he is ready to fight for his place at Newcastle and prove that he is worth retaining ... but when the manager wants you off the books ... what is the point of staying.
The problem Newcastle have is simple, no club is going to pay the asking price of £4m!
The 24-year-old striker has been informed that the club are willing to listen to offers for him, but he insists he is going nowhere.
The Republic of Ireland international moved to St James' Park during the winter transfer window in 2010 - signed by Chris Hughton.
However, his successor Alan Pardew wants extra funds to buy a new striker, and Best is one of many he will sacrifice to get extra funds.
Leon Best: "I have been in this position time and time again.
"I have to look back at last season for confidence.
"I think people know I can do it in the Premier League now and it's about fighting for my position.
"There's a new striker in who I already get on very well with and I would be delighted to play alongside him, or fight him for a place.
"Competition for places brings the best out of a team - I have always believed that."
