When The Skipper Starts Fearing Relegation We Should Worry

The fans have seen this coming for weeks, but those in high places continue to pass it off as a blip. But let's take a reality check here!

Newcastle skipper Scott Parker has admitted the club are in a relegation fight after drawing a blank against Charlton. And with Sheffield United due at St James' Park on Saturday, the ex-Chelsea midfielder is suddenly seeing life at the other end of the Premiership.

Parker: "The performances are certainly there but the points aren't. It's a bit of a worry but we keep going. That was the best we have played for a long while and I include last year in that.

"If the game had ended up 4-0 everyone would have said 'deservedly so' but that's the way it is going for us at the moment.

"Are we in a relegation fight? Yes of course, that is the reality. We are near the bottom of the table and it isn't looking good. We could go through the season saying we are playing well and not winning games, but that wouldn't keep us in the league.

"We are not going to kid ourselves, we are in the results business."
