Sam Allardyce has pursued two right-backs this week whose arrivals would leave the Irishman facing a bleak first-team future. But despite newspaper reports in Scotland AGAIN suggesting Carr will be in green and white hoops before the season starts ... we read the same LAST summer.
Where Is This Bid From Strachan?
Sam is after Olympique Marseille's Habib Beye and he is understood to have opened talks with Geremi, the Cameroon international and ex-Chelsea defender.
The 30-year-old faced an uncertain future even before Allardyce's targets became clear with Nobby Solano looking far better than the Irish international in that position last season. What amazed the Toon Army was Glenn Roeder's ridiculous decision to bring back Carr when he returned from injury, and dropping Solano.
If ever a manager deserved the sack for incompetence it was Roeder.
Should Allardyce succeed in his bid to add Beye and Geremi to Newcastle's first-team squad, it would be almost certain to spell the end for Carr. Although, I get the feeling the first offer the club gets for Carr will be enough to off-load him.
Celestine Babayaro's time on Tyneside is also coming to an end. Portuguese sources insist Sporting Lisbon have had a request to sign the African on loan rejected and are considering returning with a bid to sign the former Anderlecht player on a permanent basis.
