Alan Shearer was not the only one praising the fabulous Toon fans on Saturday when everyone celebrated his record breaking goal. Kieron Dyer received a great ovation when he took to the field as substitute against Portsmouth after a long lay-off because of injury.
Dyer: "I was very thankful for the ovation I got. Since I have been injured and since it came out that I did have a health problem the fans have been sending me get well messages. They have been behind me and it was just nice to make my comeback at St James' Park and feature in the game at some point."
"All the hours I did in the gym are made worthwhile for a moment like Saturday. I feel a lot stronger and I'm hoping to get a run of games now to help us up the table.
"The gaffer is going to arrange a couple of behind closed doors games for me during the week that will hopefully build up my stamina.
"I'm one of those players who fortunately doesn't need too many games to get back in the swing of things, so hopefully that will keep me in good stead."
