He refused to say if he was brought in as a "safety valve" to cover a Kevin Keegan walk-out, but admitted he did do the transfer dealings.
Keegan walked because Wise ran the show at St James' Park, but the former Leeds United manager insists (although it went tits up at SJP) the system could work.
Dennis Wise: “It could work. It works abroad, it could here.
“I wish them (Newcastle United) the best and hope they get up.
“I have spoken to him (Mike Ashley) about a few weeks ago, there is no malice there.
