After a day of mounting speculation the board issued a brief official statement
"Newcastle United confirm that they have agreed a fee with Leeds United for the transfer of Jonathan Woodgate.
"The completion of the transfer is subject to the player agreeing personal terms with Newcastle United."
All things being well Woodgate should sign on the dotted line tomorrow.
Freddy Shepherd told Sky Sports News: "This once again proves the ambition of Newcastle United.
"Yet again we have backed the wishes of our manager Sir Bobby Robson in the transfer market.
"I am pleased Jonathan Woodgate will be joining, he is not a Geordie but he is from the North East which is the next best thing."
Don’t want to count chickens before they hatch and personal terms are agreed – but well done on this one Freddie.
