If there is one player who has kept Graeme Souness in a job - forget about goals by Alan Shearer and Lee Clark - look to goalkeeper Shay Given who has played out of his skin every single game this season. He is the last player any Toon fan would like to see leave the club, but he says he fancies a move to Spain if he cannot agree a new deal with Newcastle.
Given has 18 months left on his current contract but has so far failed to reach an agreement with Newcastle despite preliminary talks starting before the New Year.
The 29-year-old appears to be keeping his options open and is interested in a move to La Liga, according to The Sun.
Given: "I love it at Newcastle but, if I was to leave, Spain would be my choice.
"Everything about it appeals – the people, the weather and the football. I would like to stay. I would like a new contract and to win a trophy but it has to be right financially."
